Random number generator 1-18 for golf holes
A full golf course has 18 holes, and plenty of side games need one of them picked at random. The random number generator 1-18 does that on your phone in a few seconds. Spin, read the hole number, and play on. It is free, needs no app, and gives every hole the same chance.
Away from the course, it is a quick way to pick a number 1-18 for any list of eighteen things.
How to pick a hole
- Decide what the hole is for before you spin: a secret hole prize, a hole to replay, or a bonus hole worth double.
- Tap Spin on your phone screen, or click the wheel.
- Read the hole number in the result box.
- Choose Remove it if you are picking more than one hole and want to avoid a repeat.
Course friendly options
Skip list for nines and par types
The Numbers to skip box accepts runs with a hyphen. Skip 10-18 for a front nine round, or 1-9 for the back nine. You can also list any holes that are closed, or every hole that is not a par 3 when you want a closest to the pin contest.
No repeats for practice
Switch on No repeats when you want a set of different holes for a practice loop. Each hole leaves the wheel once it is picked.
Results log
The Results tab keeps every hole in the order it came up, so the group can check which ones were chosen.
Golf games that use a random hole
- Secret hole. Spin after the round. Best score on that hole wins the side bet.
- Double points hole. Spin on the first tee to set one hole that counts twice.
- Replay a hole. Practice rounds where you replay one random hole.
- Mini golf and disc golf. Same idea on any 18 hole layout.
A fair spin on the course
Each hole has a 1 in 18 chance, about 5.6 percent. On a nine hole pick, each hole has a 1 in 9 chance, about 11 percent. The hole is chosen by your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel moves, so no player can time a tap to get a hole they like.
Need a different range, such as 1 to 27 for a course with three nines? Set it on the main random number generator. To settle who tees off first between two players, use the coin flip.
Frequently asked questions
How do I pick a hole on the front nine only?
Type 10-18 in the Numbers to skip box. The wheel then picks from holes 1 to 9, each with a 1 in 9 chance. For the back nine, skip 1-9 instead.
How does a secret hole game work with this wheel?
Play the round first and keep every score. Afterward, spin once, and whoever scored best on that hole wins the side game. Spinning after the round means nobody can play for it.
Can I limit the pick to par 3 holes?
Yes. Type every hole that is not a par 3 into the Numbers to skip box. Only the par 3s stay on the wheel.
What are the odds of any one hole?
With all 18 holes in play, each one has a 1 in 18 chance, about 5.6 percent.
Can I pick several different holes for a practice round?
Yes. Turn on No repeats, or Remove each winner automatically in the Settings tab, and spin as many times as you need. No hole comes up twice.
