Random number generator 1-2 for two way decisions

This random number generator 1-2 settles a choice between two things. Give one option the number 1 and the other the number 2, spin, and do what the wheel says. It works like a coin you can label any way you want. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser.

People often search for “pick a number between 1 and 2”, but the real job here is breaking a tie: two restaurants, two movies, or two kids who both want the front seat.

How to settle a two way choice

    1. Say the mapping out loud before anyone spins, for example 1 = pizza and 2 = tacos.
    2. Tap Spin. A click on the wheel or Ctrl + Enter does the same thing.
    3. Read the number in the result box and choose Done.
    4. If you agreed on best of three, choose Spin again and watch the count in the Results tab.

Step one matters most. When the mapping is fixed first, nobody can argue about it after the wheel stops.

    Options worth knowing

    No repeats for turn order

Switch on No repeats in the Options tab and the second spin can only give the number that is left. That turns the wheel into a turn order tool. Spin once to see who goes first, and the other person goes second. The “Put drawn numbers back” button resets it.

    Results tally

The Results tab counts how often 1 and 2 have landed and keeps a log in order. For best of three or best of five, glance at the count instead of keeping score on paper.

    Spin time and full screen

A one second spin is fine for a quick call. For a group watching on a TV, raise the spin time in the Settings tab and press the full screen button.

    When a 1 or 2 spin helps

    • Who goes first in a board game or card game between two players.
    • This or that for dinner, a film or a weekend plan.
    • Splitting a job, such as who washes and who dries.
    • Classroom pairs, where side 1 answers and side 2 checks the work.

    Fair odds

Each number has a 1 in 2 chance, or 50 percent, on every spin. The result is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel moves, and the animation only shows it. A streak of one number is ordinary luck.

If you would rather see heads or tails, use the coin flip. For a plain yes or no question, the yes or no wheel has the answers already printed on it.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a 1 to 2 spin the same as flipping a coin?

The odds are the same. Each number has a 1 in 2 chance, which is 50 percent. The difference is that you can give the two numbers any meaning you like and keep a running count in the Results tab.

How do I decide who goes first and who goes second?

Turn on No repeats in the Options tab, then spin twice. The first number drawn goes first, and the second spin can only land on the number that is left.

Can I play best of three?

Yes. Spin three times and check the Results tab, which counts how often 1 and 2 have come up. Press Clear results before the next round.

I got 1 three times in a row. Is something wrong?

No. Every spin is separate, so three of the same number in a row happens about once in every four sets of three spins. The wheel has no memory of earlier results.

Why use a wheel for only two numbers?

Everyone can watch the wheel land, which makes the result easier to accept when two people disagree. You can set the spin to last anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds in the Settings tab.
