Random number generator 1-14 for a two week schedule
Two weeks is a common planning block: a pay period, a school rotation, a work sprint, a meal plan. The random number generator 1-14 picks one day from that block with a single spin. Map the numbers to dates, spin, and you have a fair pick with no second guessing.
You can also simply pick a number between 1 and 14 for a group of 14 people or items.
Set up your two weeks
Use a mapping like this one:
- 1 to 5 = Monday to Friday of week one
- 6 and 7 = the first weekend
- 8 to 12 = Monday to Friday of week two
- 13 and 14 = the second weekend
Then:
- Press the Spin button in the middle of the wheel.
- Find the day that matches the number.
- Choose Remove it if that day is now booked, so the next spin cannot land on it.
Options for planning
Skip weekends or busy days
Type 6, 7, 13, 14 in Numbers to skip and only workdays remain. You can also add days you already know are full, such as a holiday. The skip box is saved in this browser.
No repeats for a full rotation
With No repeats on, each day is drawn once. Spin until the wheel is empty to set a random order for 14 dinners, workouts or study topics. Drawn numbers are held for the current visit only, so copy the Results log before you close the page.
Remove each winner automatically
Turn this on in the Settings tab and every day that lands drops off the wheel. That is the quickest way to fill a two week plan.
Two week uses
- Sprint check-in. Pick a random workday in a two week sprint for a demo or a review.
- Meal rotation. Fourteen dinners, one per day, in a random order.
- Chore cycle. A big job such as cleaning the fridge lands on one random day in the fortnight.
- Study plan. Fourteen chapters before an exam, one per day.
Odds for each day
Each number has a 1 in 14 chance, about 7 percent. Skip the four weekend days and each workday has a 1 in 10 chance. The result is drawn by your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the spin, so the timing of your click has no effect.
For a real calendar date between any two days, use the random date generator. For household jobs with names on the slices, try the chore wheel.
Frequently asked questions
How do the numbers 1 to 14 match two weeks of days?
Start with 1 = Monday of week one and count forward, so 7 is Sunday of week one, 8 is Monday of week two and 14 is Sunday of week two.
How do I pick only workdays in a two week period?
Type 6, 7, 13, 14 in the Numbers to skip box. That leaves the ten weekdays, and each one has a 1 in 10 chance.
What is the chance of one particular day?
With all 14 numbers in play it is 1 in 14, which is about 7 percent.
Can I spread 14 tasks over 14 days with no day used twice?
Yes. Number the tasks 1 to 14, switch on No repeats, and spin 14 times. The Results log gives the order, and you can copy it into your calendar or notes.
Can I use it for a group of 14 people instead?
Yes. Give each person a number from 1 to 14 and spin. With No repeats on, you get a random order for the whole group.
