Random number generator 1-13 for card ranks
A suit of cards has 13 ranks, from ace to king. The random number generator 1-13 picks one of them with a single spin, so you can practice a card game, run a drill or settle a “high card” call without a deck. It is free, works in a browser, and every rank has the same chance.
If someone just tells you to pick a number between 1 and 13, it does that too.
Map the ranks
Use this mapping so everyone reads the result the same way:
- 1 = ace
- 2 to 10 = the number cards
- 11 = jack
- 12 = queen
- 13 = king
Then spin:
- Spin with the center button or Ctrl + Enter.
- Turn the number into a rank using the list above.
- Choose Spin again for the next card, or Remove it to keep that rank out.
Options that act like a deck
No repeats
A real deck does not give the same card twice in a row. Switch on No repeats and each rank can come up once, which works like dealing one suit. Press “Put drawn numbers back” to reshuffle.
Numbers to skip
Skip 11-13 to drop the face cards, or skip 1 if aces are not in play. The wheel rebuilds with only the ranks you keep.
Mystery wheel
Hide the labels in the Settings tab for a higher or lower game, so nobody can track the pointer during the spin.
Ways to use a random rank
- Higher or lower. Spin a rank, guess whether the next spin will be higher or lower, then spin to check.
- Math facts. Spin a rank and multiply it by a number on the board. Kings are 13.
- High card. Each player spins once and the highest rank deals.
- Card trick practice. Get a random target rank to find in a shuffled deck.
Odds for each rank
Each rank has a 1 in 13 chance, about 7.7 percent. With No repeats on, the chance for the ranks that remain rises as the others leave. The pick is made with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel turns.
For a full playing card with suit, from a deck where drawn cards stay out until you reshuffle, use the random card generator.
Frequently asked questions
Which numbers stand for the face cards?
Use 1 = ace, 11 = jack, 12 = queen and 13 = king. The numbers 2 to 10 stand for themselves, which covers all 13 ranks in a suit.
What is the chance of landing on a king?
One in 13, which is about 7.7 percent. Every rank has the same chance on every spin.
Does the wheel pick a suit too?
No. It only gives a rank from 1 to 13. For a full card with a suit, from a deck where drawn cards stay out, use the random card generator.
How do I draw each rank only once, like dealing one suit?
Switch on No repeats. Each rank leaves the wheel after it is drawn, so 13 spins go through all of them once.
How do I take the face cards out?
Type 11-13 in the Numbers to skip box. The wheel then picks from ace to 10 only, a 1 in 10 chance for each.
