What this random image generator does

This random image generator is a picker wheel for your own pictures. You add images from your device, each one becomes a slice, and a spin picks one at random. It does not create AI images and it has no stock photo library. If you want a new picture made from a text prompt, this is the wrong tool. If you have a set of pictures and need one chosen fairly, it fits.

It is useful for teachers with picture cards, artists choosing a reference, and anyone drawing from a set of photos. It is free and needs no account.

    How to use it

    1. In the Entries tab, press “Add images” and select one file or many at once.
    2. Each picture appears on its own slice. Its label is the file name without the extension, and you can rename it in the text box.
    3. Press Spin in the center of the wheel, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter.
    4. The dialog shows the picked image and its name under “The wheel picked”. Choose Done or Spin again. With two or more pictures on the wheel, there is also a Remove it button.

    What happens to your pictures

Each image is resized inside your browser to at most 256 pixels on its longest side. That small copy is what the wheel draws and what gets saved in your browser’s local storage, so the wheel is still there when you come back. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and your original files are not changed.

Two limits follow from this design:

    • Storage. Local storage is small. If it fills up, the wheel warns you and asks you to remove some images so autosave can keep working.
    • Sharing. The share link carries entry names, weights, colors and settings, but not pictures. Someone opening the link sees text slices. To show an image wheel to others, share your screen.

“Reset this wheel” in Settings clears the pictures from this page. Wheels you saved by name stay until you delete them.

    Options for picture wheels

    Mix pictures and text

Type extra lines in the text box to add plain text slices next to the image slices.

    Weights and hiding

Open “Weights, labels and colors” to see a row with a thumbnail for each entry. A higher weight gives a wider slice, a larger picture and a better chance. Untick a row to hide a picture without deleting it.

    Mystery wheel

Turn on Mystery wheel in Settings and every slice shows a question mark in place of its picture. The image appears only in the result dialog.

    Saved wheels

The Saved wheels button keeps a named set of pictures in this browser, so you can switch between sets. Saved pictures use the same local storage.

    What people use it for

    • Drawing practice. Load a batch of reference photos and spin for today’s study.
    • Classroom picture cards. Add animals, flags or vocabulary pictures. Spin, and a student names or describes what comes up.
    • Prize draws. Use photos of the prizes and turn on “Remove each winner automatically” so each prize is drawn once.
    • Choosing between photos. Which print to frame, which shot to post, which mockup to present first.
    • Game night. Photograph your board game boxes and let the wheel choose what gets played.

    Is every picture equally likely?

Yes, unless you set weights. File size and dimensions make no difference. The pick is made with the browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts to turn.

For a wheel of plain text choices, use the picker wheel on the homepage. If you draw or paint, the random color generator can pick a color to go with your reference.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this random image generator create AI images?

No. It does not generate new pictures. It picks one at random from the images you add yourself.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Each image is read and resized inside your browser and kept in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server.

How many images can I add?

There is no set number, and you can select many files at once. The practical limit is your browser's local storage: if it fills up, the wheel tells you and asks you to remove some images so autosave can keep working.

    What image formats work?

Any image file your browser can open, such as JPG, PNG or WebP. If a file cannot be read, the wheel shows a short message and skips it.

Can I share a wheel of pictures with a link?

The share link carries entry names, weights, colors and settings, but not the pictures. The other person would see the file names as text slices, so for an image wheel it is better to share your screen.

Will the picked image be shown at full quality?

No. Images are scaled down to at most 256 pixels on the longest side so they fit on the wheel and in storage. Your original files are not changed.
