Choose tonight’s film with a movie picker wheel
Half of movie night can disappear into scrolling menus and “I don’t know, what do you want to watch?” This movie picker wheel cuts that short. Put your watchlist on the wheel, spin once, and watch whatever it lands on. It suits couples, roommates, families and film clubs, and it is free with no sign up.
To be clear about what it is: the wheel picks from a list. It does not search streaming services or recommend titles based on your taste.
How to use it
- The wheel opens with ten genres, from action and comedy to documentary and fantasy. Spin right away if all you need is a genre.
- To pick a specific film, paste your watchlist into the Entries box, one title per line, or load a quick list.
- Press Spin in the center of the wheel, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter.
- The dialog reads “Tonight you are watching” with the result. Choose Done, Remove it, or Spin again.
Ready-made lists
The quick list buttons load a set of entries in one click:
- Genres: the ten default genres.
- Family night: ten family films such as Toy Story, Coco and Paddington 2.
- Classics: ten older favorites including Casablanca, Jaws and Rocky.
- Sci-fi: ten titles such as The Matrix, Arrival and Dune.
- Comedy: eight comedies including Groundhog Day and Hot Fuzz.
A quick list replaces the current entries, so treat it as a starting point and delete anything you have seen too recently.
Options worth knowing for movie night
Take watched films off the list
Choose Remove it after a spin and that title leaves the wheel. Because the wheel autosaves in your browser, it is still gone next week. The Restore button brings removed titles back.
Hide the titles
Turn on Mystery wheel in Settings and every slice shows a question mark. Nobody knows what is in play until the result dialog opens, so nobody can lobby for or against a slice mid-spin.
Weight the picks
Under “Weights, labels and colors”, raise the weight of an entry to give it a bigger slice. Use it to favor the birthday person’s choice, or to lower the odds of a three-hour epic on a weeknight.
Put it on the big screen
The full screen button under the wheel fills the display, and Esc exits. Set a longer spin time in Settings (up to 30 seconds) for extra suspense.
Ideas for using it
- Couples. Each of you adds five titles. The wheel settles it and nobody has to be the one who chose.
- Family night. Give every child the same number of entries so the draw feels even.
- Marathons and film clubs. Turn on “Remove each winner automatically” and keep spinning. The Results tab becomes your running order.
- Genre roulette. Spin the genre wheel, then pick the first film in that genre that everyone agrees on.
- Watch parties. Send the share link so friends can check the list, then spin on a shared screen so everyone sees the same result.
Is the spin fair?
Each title has an equal chance unless you change its weight. The winner is chosen with the browser’s cryptographic random generator before the animation plays, so a slow or fast click changes nothing.
Pair it with
Use the food picker wheel to settle dinner or snacks, and the random name picker to decide who gets to fill the wheel next time.
Frequently asked questions
Does the movie picker wheel suggest movies for me?
It comes with ready lists you can load: Genres, Family night, Classics, Sci-fi and Comedy. It does not search streaming catalogs or recommend titles based on your taste, so for anything else you paste your own watchlist.
Can I paste my own watchlist?
Yes. Put one title per line in the Entries box. A column copied from a spreadsheet or a notes app works well.
How do I keep a movie we already watched from coming up again?
Choose 'Remove it' in the result dialog after the spin. The wheel autosaves in your browser, so that title is still off the wheel next time, until you press Restore.
Can I pick a genre first and then a movie?
Yes. The wheel opens on a list of ten genres. Spin for a genre, then load a matching quick list or paste titles from that genre and spin again.
Can everyone in the group add their picks?
The wheel lives in one browser, so one person collects the titles and pastes them in. Remove duplicates clears any title that was suggested twice, and the share link lets the others open the same list.
Can I put movie posters on the wheel?
Yes. Use 'Add images' to place poster pictures on the slices. The images stay in your browser and are not included in the share link.
