A trivia team name generator for quiz night

This trivia team name generator gives you clever, brainy names for pub quiz, bar trivia and quiz nights at work or at home. You have two minutes before the host collects answer sheets, and the sheet still says “Team name” at the top. Press Generate and pick one. It is free, works on your phone, and has no sign up.

    How to use it

    1. Choose how many names you want, from 1 to 50. Ten is plenty for a table to vote on.
    2. Optional: add a word in “Include a word”, such as your bar, office, street or a team in-joke.
    3. Press Generate.
    4. Tap the copy icon next to the winner, or Copy all to drop the list into your group chat.

How a good trivia name works

A trivia name has one job: get a laugh when the host reads the scores. The best ones share a few habits.

They poke fun at the team

Self-mocking names are a quiz night classic. Wrong Answers Only and Let Me Google That both confess, in a friendly way, that the team may not know much.

    They play with quiz words

Puns on quiz, fact, answer and brain carry a lot of trivia names. Quizzly Bears is a good example: a real animal with one letter changed.

    They are quick to say

The host may read your name out ten times in a night. If it takes a deep breath, it gets shortened anyway. Aim for two to five words.

The generator draws about four in ten results from its handcrafted list when the word box is empty. The rest combine words like Clever, Obscure or Quick Witted with nouns like Brainiacs, Eggheads or Overthinkers. Add your own word and it becomes the star of every result.

Tips before you write it down

    • Say it out loud. Read it in the host’s voice. If it sounds flat, try the next one.
    • Fit it on the sheet. Answer sheets have a small box. Long names get squeezed.
    • Keep it clean if you are unsure. Some quiz nights have families or work groups in the room.
    • Do not mock other teams or people. Tease yourselves, not the table next to you.

    When to use it

    Weekly pub quiz

Regulars can generate a fresh name each week or keep a favorite to track on the leaderboard.

    Virtual quiz at work

Breakout rooms need names fast. Generate one batch and assign a name to each room.

    Holiday family trivia

Split the family into teams and let each one choose from a shared list. Kids enjoy the brainy nouns.

    School quiz bowl

Students can pick a team name from the list and put the school name in the word box.

    Frequently asked questions

What makes a trivia team name funny?

Most good ones joke about the team itself: how little it knows, how much it overthinks, or how it plans to cheat with a phone. Puns on quiz words work well too. The host has to read it out, so it should land in one breath.

Can I add the name of our bar or our office to the results?

Yes. Type it in the 'Include a word' box and every result is built around it. Short words of one or two syllables give the best results.

How many trivia names does the generator know?

There are 19 handcrafted trivia names, plus 30 brainy adjectives and 30 nouns that combine into 900 more. Your own word adds even more options.

Should we use a new name every week?

That is up to your table. Some teams keep one name to build a reputation on the leaderboard, others pick a fresh joke each week. With ten new ideas per click, a weekly change is easy.

Are the names okay for a family or school quiz?

Yes. The lists are clean and lean on brainy and self-mocking humor, so they suit a school quiz bowl or a holiday trivia game with grandparents at the table.
