A country flag quiz with 195 flags

This country flag quiz shows you one flag at a time and asks you to pick the country it belongs to. It covers 195 countries: the 193 United Nations member states plus Palestine and Vatican City. A small wheel spins before each question to pick the next flag, and the quiz keeps score as you go. If you want to go faster, switch off “Spin a wheel before each question”.

It suits students preparing for a geography test, trivia fans, and anyone who wants to get better at telling similar flags apart.

How to play guess the flag

  1. Check the continents you want to play. All six are on when you start.
  2. Choose a question type, the number of choices and the number of questions.
  3. Look at the flag and click the country it belongs to.
  4. The quiz marks your answer right or wrong and highlights the correct one. A right answer gets a burst of confetti. It then moves on by itself, pausing a little longer after a miss so you can read the right answer.
  5. At the end you see your result, such as “8 of 10 correct”, along with your percentage and your best percentage so far. Press “Play again” for a new round.

Changing any setting starts a new quiz right away, so set everything before you begin. Your choices are remembered for next time.

Quiz options

Continents

Play with all 195 countries or narrow it down with the chips: Africa (54 flags), Asia (48), Europe (44), North America (23), Oceania (14) and South America (12). Check two or three to build your own set, such as Europe and Asia together.

Wrong options are picked from the same continent as the correct answer first, then from your other checked continents. A Europe round only offers European countries, which makes it harder than it sounds.

Question type

  • Show the flag, pick the country. The classic version.
  • Show the country, pick the flag. You see a country name and choose from flag pictures. It is a good test of whether you can recall a flag, not just recognize it.
  • Mixed. Each question picks one of the two types at random.

Choices and length

Pick 2, 4 or 8 options per question. Two is a gentle start for kids, and eight makes lookalike flags much harder to guess.

A round has 10 questions, 25 questions or every flag in the set you chose. If the set is smaller than the number you picked, the round uses all of it. A flag never appears twice in the same round.

Score, streak and best score

Three counters sit above the flag:

  • Progress, such as “Question 4 of 25”.
  • Score: how many you have answered correctly in this round.
  • Streak: how many you have answered correctly in a row. One wrong answer sets it back to zero.

Your best percentage is saved in your browser’s local storage and shown at the end of every round. It is a single number across all settings. There is no timer and no account.

Good ways to use it

  • Learn one continent at a time. Start with South America or Oceania, where the sets are small, then move up to Africa, the largest set.
  • Warm up for trivia night with a quick 10-question round.
  • Run a classroom challenge. Students take turns at the board and the class tracks the longest streak.
  • Go for “Every flag” with all 195 countries and 8 choices once the short rounds feel easy.

How the questions are chosen

The flags are shuffled with your browser’s cryptographic random generator at the start of each round, and the answer buttons are shuffled the same way. The correct answer has no fixed position, and two rounds are very unlikely to run in the same order.

Want a random country instead of a test? The random country generator spins for one and shows its flag and continent. In a classroom, the random name picker can decide who answers next.

Frequently asked questions

How many flags are in the country flag quiz?

The quiz has 195 flags: one for each of the 193 United Nations member states, plus Palestine and Vatican City.

Is the flag quiz multiple choice?

Yes. You choose 2, 4 or 8 options per question, and one of them is correct. Wrong options come from the same continent as the answer first, and only from the continents you are playing.

Can I practice the flags of one continent?

Yes. The Continents chips cover Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania. Leave one checked to practice a single continent, or check several to mix them. The quiz restarts with your choice.

Can the quiz show a country name and ask for the flag?

Yes. In the Question menu, choose 'Show the country, pick the flag' to see a name and pick from flag pictures. Mixed switches between both kinds of question at random.

How long is one round?

You choose 10 questions, 25 questions or every flag. If your continents have fewer flags than the number you picked, such as South America with 12, the round uses all of them.

Is my best score saved?

Your best percentage is saved in your browser's local storage and shown at the end of each round. It is one number across all quiz settings and it stays in that browser only. There is no account.
