Deep would you rather questions for real conversations

Most would you rather games are over in a few seconds. Deep would you rather questions take longer, because both sides are reasonable and your choice says something about you. This page has 50 of them, about honesty, kindness, ambition, memory and the life you want. Press Next and the page draws one at random.

    Three from the deck:

    • “Would you rather understand every person you meet or be understood by every person you meet?”
    • “Would you rather change one decision in your past or see one moment in your future?”
    • “Would you rather be known as honest or known as kind?”

    How to use it

    1. Open the page and press Next for a card.
    2. Read it slowly. Let a few seconds of quiet pass before anyone answers.
    3. Share your pick and the reason behind it.
    4. Move on with Next, or press Previous to come back to a card you want to finish.

The “Seen so far” list keeps every question from this session, which helps if you want to write some down later. Start over reshuffles the deck.

    Three ways to go deeper

Pick, why, and what would change your mind

Answer the card, explain why, then name one thing that would make you choose the other side. That third step is where the real conversation starts.

    Answer for each other

With a close friend or partner, guess their answer before they give it. Then talk about where you got it wrong. You learn as much from the misses as the hits.

    Journal it

Copy one card a day and write for ten minutes. Come back to the same question in a few months and see if your answer has moved.

    When these fit

    • One on one talks with a friend over coffee or on a long walk.
    • Couples who already know each other’s favorite foods and want something more.
    • Small group discussions like a book club or a reflection circle.
    • Journaling and self reflection on a quiet evening.
    • Long drives where nobody is in a hurry.

Keep the group small. These questions land better with two to five people than with a crowd.

    A few ground rules

Agree that anyone can pass. Listen to the whole answer before you push back. And do not treat a pick as a final verdict on someone’s character, since most people would answer differently on a different day. The point is to understand each other, not to win.

    Random and repeat free

The deck is shuffled with your browser’s cryptographic random generator, so you will not get the same question twice until you have seen all 50. It runs in your browser, it is free and it never asks for your answers.

For open ended conversation prompts, try the random question generator. If you are playing as a couple, the would you rather questions for couples mix lighter date night picks with a few thoughtful ones.

    Frequently asked questions

How many deep would you rather questions are there?

This page has 50. They are the cards tagged Deep in the main would you rather deck, about values, regrets, memory, purpose and how you treat other people.

Are these questions too heavy for a casual night?

They are thoughtful rather than dark. Nothing touches grief or trauma head on, but they do ask people to explain themselves, so they work best with a small group that has some time.

Can I use them as journaling prompts?

Yes. Press Next, copy the card with the copy button and paste it at the top of a journal entry. Write your choice first, then why, then what would make you change your mind.

What makes a would you rather question deep?

Both answers are reasonable and say something about the person who picks. There is no silly option to fall back on, so you have to think about what matters to you.

Can I skip a question I do not want to answer?

Of course. Press Next and a new card replaces it. It is a good idea to agree before you start that anyone can pass on any card.
